During the past hour
the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park : 8
Intensity of UV radiation : very high The tropical cyclone over Luzon will enter within 800 kilometres of Hong Kong later today (17 September). The Observatory will issue the Standby Signal, No. 1 tonight.
The tropical cyclone is expected to move across the northeastern part of the South China Sea in the next couple of days. It will intensify gradually and move in the general direction of the coast of eastern Guangdong. Under the influence of the northeast monsoon, the tropical cyclone will then turn westwards, edging closer to the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary. However, there are uncertainties in its landfall position and intensity. As its circulation is relatively small, the tropical cyclone will only bring significant impact to local weather when it gets relatively close to Hong Kong. Depending on the intensity of the tropical cyclone, the distance of its strong winds from Hong Kong and the change in local wind conditions, the Observatory will assess the need to issue higher tropical cyclone warning signals later on Thursday (18 September) to Friday (19 September).
Under the influence of the outer rainbands associated with the tropical cyclone, the local weather will become unsettled on Friday. It will be windy with occasional heavy squally showers and thunderstorms over the weekend. There will be swells.
On the other hand, another tropical cyclone is expected to form over the western North Pacific to the east of the Philippines today and tomorrow. It will intensify significantly and move across the vicinity of Luzon Strait. It will enter the northern part of the South China Sea early next week and edge closer to the coast of southern China. Under the influence of the extensive circulation of the tropical cyclone, the weather will deteriorate significantly over the region midweek next week. Winds will strengthen again with heavy squally showers and thunderstorms. Seas will be rough with swells. Since storm surge may be quite significant by then, there may be flooding over the coastal areas.

位 於 呂 宋 的 熱 帶 氣 旋 會 在 今 日 （ 9 月 17 日 ） 稍 後 進 入 本 港 800 公 里 範 圍 ， 天 文 台 會 在 今 晚 發 出 一 號 戒 備 信 號 。
預 料 該 熱 帶 氣 旋 會 在 未 來 一 兩 日 橫 過 南 海 東 北 部 ， 逐 漸 增 強 ， 大 致 移 向 廣 東 東 部 沿 岸 。 受 東 北 季 候 風 影 響 ， 該 熱 帶 氣 旋 隨 後 將 轉 向 偏 西 方 向 移 動 ， 靠 近 珠 江 口 一 帶 ， 但 登 陸 位 置 及 強 度 存 在 變 數 。 由 於 其 環 流 較 為 細 小 ， 因 此 要 在 較 為 接 近 香 港 時 才 會 為 本 地 天 氣 帶 來 顯 著 影 響 ， 天 文 台 會 視 乎 該 熱 帶 氣 旋 的 強 度 、 其 強 風 區 與 本 港 的 距 離 及 本 地 風 力 變 化 ， 評 估 是 否 需 要 在 星 期 四 （ 9 月 18 日 ） 稍 後 至 星 期 五 （ 9 月 19 日 ） 改 發 更 高 熱 帶 氣 旋 警 告 信 號 。
受 其 相 關 的 外 圍 雨 帶 影 響 ， 星 期 五 本 港 天 氣 漸 轉 不 穩 定 ， 週 末 期 間 間 中 有 狂 風 大 驟 雨 及 雷 暴 ， 風 勢 頗 大 。 海 有 湧 浪 。
另 一 方 面 ， 預 料 另 一 個 熱 帶 氣 旋 會 在 今 明 兩 日 於 菲 律 賓 以 東 之 西 北 太 平 洋 形 成 ， 顯 著 增 強 及 橫 過 呂 宋 海 峽 一 帶 ， 並 在 下 週 初 進 入 南 海 北 部 ， 靠 近 華 南 沿 岸 。 受 其 廣 闊 環 流 影 響 ， 下 週 中 期 該 區 天 氣 顯 著 轉 壞 ， 風 勢 再 度 增 強 ， 有 狂 風 大 驟 雨 及 雷 暴 ， 海 有 大 浪 及 湧 浪 。 由 於 屆 時 風 暴 潮 可 能 較 為 顯 著 ， 沿 岸 地 區 或 會 出 現 水 浸 。
