at the Hong Kong Observatory :
Air temperature : 32 degrees Celsius
Relative Humidity : 66 per cent
During the past hour
the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park : 5
Intensity of UV radiation : moderate The broad area of low pressure to the west of Luzon has entered the central and northern parts of the South China Sea and is developing gradually, but its structure is still loose. If the broad area of low pressure further develops into a tropical cyclone tonight to tomorrow morning, the Observatory will consider issuing the Standby Signal, No. 1 by then. The low pressure system will move towards Hainan Island and the seas south of it. However, there are uncertainties in its intensity. Under the combined effect of the low pressure system and the ridge of high pressure over southeastern China, it will be windy with showers, thunderstorms and squalls over the northern part of the South China Sea and the coast of southern China tomorrow and on Friday (28 and 29 August). There will be swells. Unless the low pressure system intensifies significantly, or develop closer to the coast of Guangdong, or adopts a track closer to the coast of Guangdong, the chance of persistent strong winds generally over the territory is expected to be relatively low. Members of the public should take note of the latest weather information from the Observatory, stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports. Please be reminded that:The Thunderstorm Warning has been issued. It will remain effective until 5:00 p.m. today. Isolated thunderstorms are expected to occur over New Territories West. The Very Hot Weather Warning is now in force. The public should beware of heat stroke and drink more water.
