At 6 p.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory : Air temperature : 31 degrees Celsius Relative Humidity : 81 per cent During the past hour the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park : 0.7 Intensity of UV radiation : low The tropical depression over the central part of the South China Sea remains rather loose. Squally showers associated with it and the southwest monsoon are covering the central to southern parts of the South China Sea. According to the present forecast, the tropical cyclone will intensify and gradually take a more northwesterly track, moving in the general direction to the vicinity of Hainan Island. Under its influence, there will be occasional squally showers over the coast of Guangdong in the next couple of days. Winds offshore and on high ground in the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary will pick up gradually later tomorrow. The Observatory will issue the Standby Signal, No. 1 at 10:40 p.m. tonight. There will be swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline, not to engage in water sports and take note of the latest weather forecast. At 3 a.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory : Air temperature : 30 degrees Celsius Relative Humidity : 86 per cent The tropical depression over the central part of the South China Sea has entered within 800 kilometres of Hong Kong. According to the present forecast, there is a higher chance that the tropical depression will move towards the vicinity of Hainan Island and western Guangdong. However, it will still maintain a distance of over 600 kilometres from Hong Kong this morning, with its intensity being relatively weak at first. Local winds are not expected to strengthen significantly yet. Depending on its movement, the Observatory will consider issuing the Standby Signal, No. 1 this afternoon (20 July) to tonight. Under its influence, there will be squally showers and it will be windy offshore and on high ground in the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary on Sunday and Monday. There will be swells. Members of the public please take note of the latest weather forecast.
