The Strong Monsoon Signal is now in force. Besides, Severe Tropical Storm Gaemi is expected to move north across inland Fujian, gradually moving away from Hong Kong and continuing to weaken. It will not pose direct threat to the territory. Strong winds are expected from the southwest. The public should beware of the possible danger brought by rough seas. Please be reminded that:The Thunderstorm Warning has been issued. It will remain effective until 10:30 a.m. today. At 8 p.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory : Air temperature : 31 degrees Celsius Relative Humidity : 81 per cent Typhoon Gaemi has made landfall on the coast of Putian in Fujian. It will move inland of southeastern China and weaken gradually, maintaining a distance of over 500 kilometres from Hong Kong. Its circulation will be relatively far from the Pearl River Estuary. Unless Gaemi adopts a more westerly track, the chance of issuing tropical cyclone warning signal is relatively low. Meanwhile, a strong southwest monsoon is affecting the coast of Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea. The Strong Monsoon Signal is now in force. Under the influence of the southwest monsoon, winds will be strong offshore tonight and tomorrow, occasionally reaching gale force on high ground at first. A few showers and squally thunderstorms are expected, with more showers at first. There will be occasional showers, heavy at times, in the following couple of days. At 8 a.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory : Air temperature : 30 degrees Celsius Relative Humidity : 80 per cent During the past hour the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park : 0.7 Intensity of UV radiation : low Severe Typhoon Gaemi is moving across the Taiwan Strait. It is expected to make landfall over Fujian later today and enter the inland areas of southeastern China, maintaining a distance of over 500 kilometres from Hong Kong. Unless Gaemi adopts a more westerly track after making landfall over Fujian, its circulation will be relatively far from the Pearl River Estuary and the chance of issuing tropical cyclone warning signal is relatively low. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon over the northern part of the South China Sea will become more active today. Winds will be strong offshore, occasionally reaching gale force on high ground later today and at first tomorrow. Depending on the changes in local wind conditions, the Observatory will consider issuing the Strong Monsoon Signal. Under the influence of the outer subsiding air of Gaemi, it will still be very hot today and the temperatures will reach 35 degrees or above over parts of the territory. High temperatures may also trigger thundery showers later today. There will be more showers and a few squally thunderstorms over the coastal areas on Friday and during the weekend.
