2018
Three FREE Short Summer Courses from the Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response Summer Institute 2018 (June & July 2018) is now open for enrollment. The courses are provided by the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care (JCSPHPC), and Collaborating Centre for Oxford University and CUHK for Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response (CCOUC) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in collaboration with the Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI). The course is for anyone who is interested in learning more about Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response, and is open to people from all backgrounds and disciplines.
2017
The Fundamental Disaster Response Course is organized by the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine and supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI), aiming to cultivate leadership in disaster management. This is the fourth running of the course, which will be delivered over 4 full days spanning 4 months.
Course Content and Methodology
The course will cover core skills and a competency checklist for disaster management, and will be delivered via lectures, discussions, demonstrations, experience sharing. Self-reading is expected during the designated study period with a minimum commitment of 3 hours reading per week.
The course would be delivered in English.
Target participants
Health care professionals who might be involved in disasters response or emergency medicine.

A HK$3000 deposit is required upon registration, and will be refunded upon successful completion of the course. A minimum of 75% attendance rate and passing of tests is required for successful completion. |

Adverse Weather Policy
- When Typhoon Signal No. 3 or below/Amber or Red Rainstorm Warning is in force – course held as scheduled.
- If Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above/Black Rainstorm Warning is hoisted at 6:00 am – course will be postponed and detail would be informed through email.
- At 6:00 am, if announced that Typhoon Signal No. 8 / Black Rainstorm Warning will be hoisted before noon on day of class – course will be postponed and detail would be informed through email.
- When Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above is hoisted during classes – dismiss immediately. Follow-up wound be informed through email.
- When Black Rainstorm Warning is hoisted during classes/examinations – course held as scheduled.
A free short course “Emergency Risk Communication in Disaster and Humanitarian Crisis” (4 Nov–2 Dec, 2017) organized by Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care (JCSPHPC), and Collaborating Centre for Oxford University and CUHK for Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response (CCOUC) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is now open for application.
The need to communicate risks as accurate as possible in a timely manner arises as much from public expectation as professional need. This free course offers to those interested in disaster medicine a theoretical yet practical framework of effective advocacy and emergency risk communication in an evolving media landscape. Cases ranging from outbreaks to natural disasters in humanitarian settings will be thoroughly discussed throughout the course. The HazMat Medical Response (HMR) course is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPR), the Hong Kong Association for Conflict and Catastrophe Medicine and the A&E Department of Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital. The 2-day course is designed for emergency responders including physicians, nurses, paramedics and EMS workers who may be required to manage hazardous materials incidents. The training course will take participants through both theory and practical sessions including don and doff of personal protective equipment, receiving of contaminated patients at hospitals, decontamination area set-up, assessment of incidence scenes etc.
