A megacity facing high risks from natural hazards
Megacities can be seriously susceptible to various natural hazards potentially posing negative impacts on human health, economy and sustainability. With the global population living in urban cities projected to increase to 66% by 2050, building disaster resilient in big cities has become a global focus in the last decade.

Since December 2018, the HKJCDPRI has collaborated with HKSKH Lady Maclehose Centre on the "More Knowledge, Less Risk" Community Education Campaign. Through a range of activities, disaster preparedness knowledge will be disseminated to the community members to strengthen their response capacities during emergencies.

Two representatives of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI) participated in the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM) Congress held on 7 – 10 May 2019. The WADEM Congress is a biennial international event which provides an interactive and stimulating environment for participants to share research and findings, exchange ideas and best practices and network with peers.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI) has started a weekly column at the HK01 online news portal since 17 May 2019.
Everyone is exposed to disaster risks in any place, at any time. Yet everyone can take actions to reduce their risks and protect themselves. The HKJCDPRI's "Get Preparedness for Disasters 【防災零距離】column will feature stories of past disasters and analyse lessons learned. We will also share with readers useful information and tips to prepare for, respond to and mitigate emergencies.
