“Disaster Preparedness in Hung Fuk Estate” in Yuen Long has launched!

To create public awareness and understanding on potential hazards in the community, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI) collaborates with different organisations and schools to launch edcuation programmes of“Community Campaign on Disaster Resilience".

Since this March, we have collaborated with our local partner,  the Community Development Enhancement Fund (CEDF) on the “Disaster Preparedness in Hung Fuk Estate” Public Housing Education Campaign. It aims at enhancing residents' awareness and knowledge towards typhoon and infectious disease outbreak, so as to equip them with a higher level of preparedness and response capacities.

Located in Yuen Long, Hung Fuk Estate is a new public housing established in 2015. According to the statistics obtained by the CEDF, nearly 70% of the residents used to live in inadequate housings such as subdivided flats and interim housing flat before moving in. They have been much longed for a stable, safe and hygienic living environment, and therefore are more passionate in joining efforts to build a community that is more resilient.

A range of educational activities have been carried out based on the needs of the residences in Hung Fuk Estate. Among which, the mobile education booth has been launched in June, covering topics on how to be prepare and stay safe during the typhoon season, as well as measures to prepare for infectious disease outbreak at both the household and estate level.
