The first World Disaster Report​ was published in 1993 with the aims of bringing up the latest trends, facts and anlysis of comtemporary disasters and the impact of disasters on vulnerable people in the globe. It is convened by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) annually to bring together researchers, humanitarian workers and various experts to highlight the most imperative emerging issues as a key reference document for disaster management practitioners.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI) joins efforts with different partners to reach out to general public for enhancement of disaster awareness and knowledge. We design various programmes and use different channels to educate and empower the people of Hong Kong to prepare for, respond to and mitigate disasters, including natural and man-made emergencies. All resources listed here are freely and publicly available. We ask users to use them with respect and credit the authors as appropriate. You may have to log onto DPRI’s Moodle Platform in order to access some of the materials.

  Children between the ages of 0-8 represent the highest percentage of affected populations in today’s global emergencies (UNICEF, 2007). The leading organisations in promoting disaster risk reduction globally have been promoting the integration of children education as one of the disaster risk reduction strategies. The UNICEF recommends that disaster education for children can be planned in homes, health services, early childhood development, kindergartens, preschools and infant homes/orphanages.
