近年，香港甚少發生因山泥傾瀉而觸發的災難事故，當中有賴土木工程拓展署轄下的土力工程處的長遠防治山泥傾瀉計劃及山泥傾瀉緊急服務工作，使香港在斜坡安全管理工作上享譽國際。話雖如此，山泥傾瀉風險絕不能忽視。同時，在全球氣候變化之下，極端天氣對香港帶來危險的強度和密度亦隨之改變，例如降雨量遂漸增加。
