Tropical Cyclone Fengshen has entered within 800 kilometres of Hong Kong. However, the coast of southern China is still primarily under the influence of the northeast monsoon most of the time today (20 October). With Fengshen edging closer to the coast of Guangdong gradually, the Observatory will consider issuing the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 directly between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. today to replace the Strong Monsoon Signal.
Under the combined effect of Fengshen and the monsoon, it will be persistently windy and becoming cloudy with rain in the next couple of days. Rain will be more frequent at times on Tuesday and early Wednesday. Temperatures will fall appreciably to around 19 degrees in the urban areas on Tuesday to Thursday, and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories.
Under the combined effect of spring tide, the northeast monsoon and Fengshen, flooding may occur over some low-lying coastal areas during the high tides for a few nights consecutively this week. The water level over Victoria Harbour will rise to around 3 metres above the Chart Datum at night from Tuesday to Thursday. Members of the public should take note of the latest weather information from the Observatory. Please be reminded that:The Strong Monsoon Signal has been issued.
