At 2 p.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory : Air temperature : 28 degrees Celsius Relative Humidity : 83 per cent During the past hour the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park : 3 Intensity of UV radiation : moderate The area of low pressure over the northern part of the South China Sea is loosely organised. It has made landfall near Xiangzhou, Zhuhai after 1 p.m. It moved into the western part of the Pearl River Estuary, away from Hong Kong. Under the influence of the active southwesterly airstream to its eastern and southern sides, local winds are occasionally strong offshore and on high ground. Depending on the change in local wind conditions, the Observatory will consider issuing the Strong Monsoon Signal. The rainbands of the area of low pressure are mainly located to its south. They are expected to edge closer to the coast of Guangdong gradually. Locally, there will be occasional showers and squally thunderstorms later today to tomorrow at first. Showers will be heavier in some areas. Members of the public please take note of the latest weather information from the Observatory. At 5 p.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory : Air temperature : 31 degrees Celsius Relative Humidity : 75 per cent During the past hour the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park : 2 Intensity of UV radiation : low In the past few hours, the structure of the area of low pressure over the northern part of the South China Sea remained relatively loose. It is expected to take some time to consolidate. Whether it will develop into a tropical depression can only become more certain when it is relatively close to the coast of Guangdong. If the area of low pressure develops into a tropical depression, the Observatory will assess the need for issuing the Standby Signal, No. 1 tonight (13 July) to tomorrow at first (14 July). According to the present forecast, the low pressure system will be closest to Hong Kong tomorrow morning, skirting within 100 kilometres of the territory. Heavy showers, thunderstorms and squalls will affect Hong Kong tomorrow. There may be a need to issue rainstorm warning signals or Localised Heavy Rain Advisory. Strong winds will prevail offshore. Flooding may occur in some low-lying areas. Under the influence of an active southwesterly airstream, showers will be heavier in some areas at first on Wednesday (15 July) and there will still be strong winds offshore. The Observatory will closely monitor the development and movement of the low pressure system. Members of the public should take note of the latest weather information from the Observatory. Please be reminded that:The Very Hot Weather Warning is now in force. Prolonged heat alert! Please drink sufficient water. If feeling unwell, take rest or seek help immediately. If needed, seek medical advice as soon as possible. At 2 p.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory : Air temperature : 34 degrees Celsius Relative Humidity : 67 per cent During the past hour the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park : 10 Intensity of UV radiation : very high An area of low pressure within the broad trough of low pressure over the northern part of the South China Sea will develop gradually and edge closer to the coast of Guangdong. Since the convective clouds associated with it are mainly located at its southern side currently, it is expected to take some time to consolidate. Whether it will develop into a tropical depression can only become more certain when it is relatively close to the coast of Guangdong. If the area of low pressure develops into a tropical depression, the Observatory will assess the need for issuing the Standby Signal, No. 1 this evening (13 July) to tomorrow morning (14 July). Showers will be heavy at times at first on Wednesday (15 July) and there will still be strong winds offshore. The Observatory will closely monitor the development and movement of the low pressure system. Members of the public should take note of the latest weather information from the Observatory.
