Three FREE Short Summer Courses from the Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response Summer Institute 2018 (June & July 2018) is now open for enrollment. The courses are provided by the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care (JCSPHPC), and Collaborating Centre for Oxford University and CUHK for Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response (CCOUC) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in collaboration with the Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI). The course is for anyone who is interested in learning more about Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response, and is open to people from all backgrounds and disciplines.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI) Project was launched in November 2014 as a collaborative initiative, which has evolved over the past three years. It was envisaged that a meta-synthesis of the review findings conducted midway through the project would help drawing evidence-based lessons emerging over the course of its implementation, and tracking how the Project was taking shape.   We are currently recruiting a consultant / consultancy team to conduct the mid-term review (i.e. meta-synthesis of review findings) for the HKJCDPRI. Successful applicant is expected to deliver a Review Report by end of April 2018.

The Fundamental Disaster Response Course is organized by the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine and supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI), aiming to cultivate leadership in disaster management. This is the fourth running of the course, which will be delivered over 4 full days spanning 4 months.   Course Content and Methodology The course will cover core skills and a competency checklist for disaster management, and will be delivered via lectures, discussions, demonstrations, experience sharing. Self-reading is expected during the designated study period with a minimum commitment of 3 hours reading per week. The course would be delivered in English.

Introduction The Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI) Overseas Training Fellowship for Emergency Medicine  / Emergency Medical Services is now open for application. Concerning the potential risks of Hong Kong’s urban environment, the theme of fellowship programme in Summer 2017 is “Strengthening the Emergency Response / Preparedness of Urban Disasters in Hong Kong”. Awardee selection preference will be given to applications in response to the theme.   The Fellowship

Partnering with the Hong Kong College of Community Medicine, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI) supported the development of leadership training for healthcare professionals.   Various workshop on disaster management has been designed and conducted under this programme. On 7 – 8 July 2018, the “1.5 day Training Workshop on Disaster Management”, was conducted. A total of 27 participants from different sectors including the Hong Kong Department of Health, Hospital Authority, the Hong Kong Police Force, the Hong Kong Fire Services Department, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Macau Institute of Management and the Macau Management Association.

Chemical agents, being at the core of modern industrial systems, has attained a very serious concern for disaster management within the government and community. Chemicals such as chlorine, which was used during World War I as chemical weapons — is also a key ingredient in numerous commercial products. Correct application of chemicals is very important. Appropriate use will be beneficial while misuse will bring disasters. This course will provide learners with an overview of issues in relation to chemical disasters due to industrial accidents, terrorism and war attack.
