The “Disaster Research & Information Hub” aims to provide a centralized hub for the latest research, evidence, information and news relating to disasters and their human health impact. With a focus on Health Emergency and Disaster Risk Management, this platform will highlight the latest trends and new knowledge relating to disaster health preparedness, risk literacy and resilience.
The Hub consists of four major sections:
The “Disaster Research & Information Hub” aims to provide a centralized hub for the latest research, evidence, information and news relating to disasters and their human health impact. With a focus on Health Emergency and Disaster Risk Management, this platform will highlight the latest trends and new knowledge relating to disaster health preparedness, risk literacy and resilience.
The Hub consists of four major sections:
- Disaster Publications – contains researches, studies, articles or academic publications on disaster-related topics from various researchers, institutions or organizations around the world.
- Directory - provides an overview of the institutions or journals dedicated to disaster research globally.
- Terminology - list out the definition of disaster-related terminology, which is actively maintained by a group of scholars, to aim at providing a common language to facilitate ideas exchange and research collaboration.
- News & Info - provides a quick-glance to disaster-related news, alerts and information.

The “Disaster Research & Information Hub” is facilitated as part of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute project. It is developed and managed by the Collaborating Centre for Oxford University and CUHK for Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response (CCOUC) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, with hub development funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.

Natural hazards have direct and indirect health impacts. Apart from physical and mental trauma, other health impacts include malnutrition, disrupted disease treatment plans, and risk of infectious diseases. Health impacts may be mitigated through health-related emergency and disaster risk management (Health-EDRM). They are systematic analysis and management of health risks through the reduction of hazards and vulnerability in all stages of the disaster management cycle, from prevention/mitigation, preparedness, response to recovery (Lo et al., 2017; World Health Organization [WHO], 2019).

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI) is inviting tenders for the development of educational theatre programme on disaster preparedness education in local primary schools, which is expected to be carried out from November 2019 to August 2020.
HKJCDPRI launched a pilot programme targeting primary one to two students in March 2019. Interactive education theatre was used to convey key disaster knowledge, risk concepts and proper attitudes in the face of emergencies. Upon receiving positive feedback from the pilot schools and participating students, HKJCDPRI plans to move from a pilot to full-scale implementation and devise an educational theatre for school touring, with an aim of creating a favourable learning atmosphere to spread disaster preparedness concepts and deliver key disaster preparedness messages to local primary school sector.
