Course Information

This module is a selected module from the Disaster Medicine 202 which is a Disaster Medicine introductory course developed by the Emergency Medicine Unit of The University of Hong Kong for the Faculty of Medicine. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute supported the design and production of the simulated disaster scenarios by us of Virtual Reality (VR) simulation. The use of VR disaster scenarios in the course will immerse participants in a virtual world to manage various emergency skills learned from the lecture.

本短期網上課程是香港大學李嘉誠醫學院急症醫學部為醫學院學生而設計的災難醫學202課程的其中一個單元。在本單元中,香港賽馬會災難防護應變教研中心為課程利用虛擬實境(VR)技術製作相關的災難虛擬場景,使學員置身其中並作模擬練習。

About the course

This course will enable students to learn the basic principles of triage system used in massive casualty incident in Hong Kong in disaster or emergency field situations. Apart from the basic principles taught in lecture, students will have a chance to handle triage cases a virtual emergency road traffic accident in Hong Kong.

What you will learn
  • The basic principles and classification of triage in a Mass Casualties Incident (MCI) for adults

  • Get familiar with the START algorithm

  • Apply the START algorithm in a MCI scenario

Target Audience

Any persons who may serve as an emergency first aid personnel or rescue worker in an emergency situation.
