Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI) Overseas Clinical (EM) Training Fellowship for Healthcare Professionals

How to Apply

The candidate should provide the followings for application:

  1. A complete CV with an emphasis relating to the previous experience in disaster or humanitarian related training, if any.
  2. An essay of not more than 1,000 words on a proposed project about disaster-related training that can benefit HKAM’s mission of conducting state of the art disaster simulation training and exercises. The document should be organized and include details of the following:
    1. Personal goals for spending time at the respective institutions.
    2. The training need that the candidate intends to solve upon completion of the overseas attachment.
    3. Other training courses or similar programmes in other parts of the world, and how this course might be relevant or applicable to the setting of Hong Kong and the region.
    4. Description of how candidate will bring improvement to the existing training mechanism/ curriculum or competencies.
    5. Apart from the content, the pedagogy and learning technology and platform HKJCDPRI can adopt from these courses or the clinical attachment
  3. Two letters of reference attesting to the candidate’s teaching ability - at least one must be from his/her supervisor.
  4. As a part of the Visiting Scholar application, applicants will submit the approval and support from overseas faculty, and the on-site arrangements and learning plans.

Separately, the applicant must also apply for the course(s) and/or placement which will start after the date of the confirmation of the award, i.e. November/December each year. We recommend the applicant to do this before or at the same time as apply for the Overseas Training fellowship.

Selection committee

An interview shall be conducted by a selection committee. The following factors shall be taken into account for selecting the suitable candidate:

  1. The aspiration and suitability of the candidate to become a leader in disaster education as reflected by his/her CV, disaster and humanitarian education experience and qualification, and the essay about his/her project.
  2. Support by his/her work supervisor.
  3. Perceived ability as a leader and trainer.
  4. An undertaking of becoming an instructor on simulation courses and exercises for HKJCDPRI is a must for the candidate to be selected.

Date of Commencement and Closing of Application

Three fellowships will be granted each year for 5 consecutive years from 2015 to 2019. Application opens in mid-August and award to be made in November every year.

Award Terms and Conditions

Overseas fellows are expected to agree to the terms and conditions of the Overseas Training Fellowship and sign the Final Award Letter. Some of the conditions stipulated in this letter are:


  • Request for the fellow to assist HKJCDPRI and/or their working institutions in conducting simulation training or drills.
  • Submit a report and/or deliver a sharing session on how to enhance capacity building initiatives of HKJCDPRI.
  • Complete the required training organized by HKJCDPRI.
  • Complete the course(s) and/or placement within 3 to 12 months.
