Leadership Courses for Healthcare Professionals - 1.5 day Training Workshop on Disaster Management

Partnering with the Hong Kong College of Community Medicine, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI) supported the development of leadership training for healthcare professionals.

 

Various workshop on disaster management has been designed and conducted under this programme. On 7 – 8 July 2018, the “1.5 day Training Workshop on Disaster Management”, was conducted. A total of 27 participants from different sectors including the Hong Kong Department of Health, Hospital Authority, the Hong Kong Police Force, the Hong Kong Fire Services Department, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Macau Institute of Management and the Macau Management Association.

 

The training included an introduction of the theories of disaster management, including effective leadership during disaster management. The use of social media during crisis, its benefits and disadvantages, such as engaging public sentiments, was also discussed during the training. The highlight of the training included a session on effective crisis communication, where participants had to simulate a press conference for a crisis response, which will be video-taped, for analysis and critique.
