Joining hands with CCC Heep Woh College, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI) conducted two seminars on general disaster preparedness concepts and personal safety precautions on 20 September 2019 for the students of the school.

Super typhoon Mangkhut that slammed Hong Kong last year brought varying degrees of impact to many schools in the city. The Education Bureau announced class suspension of all schools for two days for schools to clean up and conduct repair works. In addition to the destruction of school facilities, some students had difficulties to go to schools as many roads were impassible due to debris.

CCC Heep Woh College was one of the schools that was significantly affected by Mangkhut. Some of the school facilities were damaged by the typhoon. Located on the hilly region of Wong Tai Sin, the school is prone to strong winds and weather related incidents. Apart from natural disasters, students nowadays are more aware of emergency risks, exist locally or overseas, around them due to their increased awareness in climate change issues and global political development. With this in mind, the HKJCDPRI conducted two seminars on general disaster preparedness concepts and personal safety precautions for the students of CCC Heep Woh College. The first seminar, delivered by Ms Eva Lam, Director of HKJCDPRI, and Mr Chi-ho Kwan, Chairperson of Guidance Committee of CCC Heep Woh College, covered general disaster preparedness concepts and knowledge on precautionary measures on selected disasters commonly encountered by the people of Hong Kong. The second seminar focused on personal safety and security including protection against chemical incidents and conflict events. During the second seminar, Dr Pak-chuen Yuen, emergency physician, shared with students some practical skills to handle medical emergencies that may occur during chemical and conflict incidents. Over 800 students attended the two seminars.
