A FREE Public Health Course in Emergency Medicine for Disaster and Humanitarian Crises Responders (18 Jul – 14 Aug 2018) is now open for application!

This Course is a re-run of the 2017 Course with the same title. There are slight differences in contents and lecturers.

 

A free Public Health Course, CMED6231 Emergency Medicine for Disaster and Humanitarian Crises Responders’ (18 Jul – 14 Aug 2018), organised by the School of Public Health of The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI) is now open for application.

 

The human suffering and destruction following a disaster or humanitarian crisis impose a significant demand for emergency healthcare resources. These catastrophes, which occur with intimidating frequency, present to the responders a wide range of problems. This Course addresses these problems from the perspective of Emergency Medicine. It will specifically cover the clinical challenges associated with disasters or humanitarian crises and their management, the principles of disaster response and the related ethical and legal issues. 

 

To be eligible for admission, a candidate shall:

  1. comply with the University General Regulations;
  2. comply with the University Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula;
  3. hold a Bachelor’s degree with honours or the degrees of MBBS of this University, or another qualification of equivalent standard from this University or from another University or comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
  4. satisfy the University English language requirement applicable to higher degrees as prescribed under General Regulation G2(b); and
  5. satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if required.

Application will be closed by 6 July 2018 and application form for admission as Occasional Students is available at HKU MPH website: http://mph.sph.hku.hk/en/prospective-student/application/forms-guides

Occasional Students are not required to undertake an examination, and will receive a Certificate of Attendance if they achieve at least 80% attendance rate.

 

Sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for HKJCDPRI, course fee of ‘Emergency Medicine for Disaster and Humanitarian Crises Responders’ Course will be waived by the HKU School of Public Health.
